What the law names
Nine requirements, in the wording of § 9 Abs. 2.
The numbers are those of the law. Whether they are met in your case is decided by your immigration authority alone. civitas. does not carry out any such assessment.
Nr. 1Five years of residence permitHolding the residence permit for five years.
Nr. 2Secured livelihoodThe livelihood is secured.
Nr. 360 months of pension contributionsAt least 60 months of compulsory or voluntary contributions to the statutory pension insurance, or comparable expenditure.
Nr. 4Public security and orderNo grounds of public security or order stand in the way. The statute names the severity and type of an offence, the danger posed, the length of residence so far and ties within Germany.
Nr. 5Permission to workEmployment is permitted, where the person is an employee.
Nr. 6Further permitsHolding the further permits required for the continued exercise of the occupation.
Nr. 7Sufficient knowledge of GermanThe wording is “sufficient knowledge of the German language”. Under the legal definition in § 2 Abs. 11 AufenthG that is level B1.
Nr. 8Basic knowledge of the legal and social orderBasic knowledge of the legal and social order and of the living conditions in the federal territory.
Nr. 9Sufficient living spaceSufficient living space for themselves and the family members living with them in a common household.
The law provides for exceptions
More of them than most people know.
Nr. 7 and Nr. 8 count as proven where an integration course has been completed successfully. For illness, disability and further cases the law provides its own rules, as it does for spouses, children and earlier periods of residence.
