Die Stadt Bochum nennt auf ihrer offiziellen Einbürgerungsseite (bochum.de) eine Bearbeitungsdauer von zurzeit ungefähr 12 Monaten; Anträge werden in der Reihenfolge des Eingangs bearbeitet. In einem Bericht von Radio Bochum vom Juni 2025 gab die Stadt nach eigenen Angaben eine Reduzierung auf aktuell etwa 8 Monate an — diese niedrigere Zahl ist auf der amtlichen Seite jedoch (noch) nicht bestätigt, daher ist die offizielle 12-Monats-Angabe maßgeblich.

Bei Ehegatten von Deutschen genügen nach § 9 StAG drei Jahre Aufenthalt und zwei Jahre Ehebestand. Die endgültige Prüfung liegt allein beim Einbürgerungsbüro.
